The company proposing an oil pipeline across northern B.C. isdefending its safety record, which has come under attack over itsresponse to an oil spill in Michigan, Canadian Press reports.
The president of Calgary-based Enbridge (ENB.TO) says in astatement issued today the company has the largest and most complexliquids pipeline system in the world, a system it operates with a99.999% safety record.
But Al Monaco says even that is not good enough and Enbridgestrives for no spills, investing about $400 million last year alonein the safety of its vast pipeline network.
The company was rapped by the U.S. National TransportationSafety Board in its report into a 2010 spill into the KalamazooRiver in Michigan.
The report prompted the National Energy Board in Canada toannounce it will increase safety audits on the company's Canadianoperations in the coming months.
ENB shares were off 16 cents at $39.74.
