The Yidma-11X well tested 14.3 million cubic feet per day of gas and 1000 barrels per day of condensate with no water. IPR was targeting the Alam El-Bueib formation about 130 kilometres south-west of Alexandria.
The discovery was made at a depth of about 12,000 feet. It followed a programme of seismic imaging in the Alamein Ridge area.
“While no gas has been found in this formation in this region of the Western Desert, it appears that commercial quantities of very rich gas exist,” IPR said in a statement. “IPR and its technical experts are remapping what could prove to be a much larger structure of gas and condensate.”
IPR plans to invest in 57 wells in Egypt in 2014 as a part of an “aggressive growth plan” in the Middle East and North Africa.
