Alcoa pipe to be used in Maersk Oil well maintenance operations

Alcoa Oil & Gas Inc., a business unit of Alcoa, has announced that Maersk Oil will use 10,000 ft of 5-in. Alcoa Aluminum Drill Pipe (AADP) for use in maintenance and abandonment operations.

Alcoa will supply the aluminum pipe to Maersk Oil through AMRTUR Corporation, an oil and gas industry service provider. The AADP will be fitted with modified API FH connections, and will include an NOV TK-34 AL coating for reliable corrosion resistance over a wide pH range. Additional details of the transaction were not disclosed.

Alcoa’s drillpipe design and aluminum construction make it 40% lighter than steel pipe, with superior strength-to-weight ratios.
