Newly Refurbished FPSO to Operate Offshore Nigeria

Keppel Shipyard has performed the world’s fastest brownfield floating production, storage and offloading (FPSO) modification and upgrade project safely and on-time, parent firm Keppel Offshore & Marine (Keppel O&M) reported Wednesday.

The Singapore yard delivered the FPSO to customer Yinson Nepeta Production Ltd. (Yinson), which is a wholly owned unit of Yinson Holdings Berhad.

“This is our 134th floating production vessel, and we are pleased to be able to fast-track the project and upgrade it in under seven months,” Keppel O&M CEO Chris Ong commented in a written statement emailed to Rigzone. “This achievement reflects Keppel’s track record of reliability and quality, anchored in our strong engineering and project management capabilities, which enable us to offer value-adding solutions for customers.”

Keppel stated that its project scope included:

  • Refurbishment and life extension work
  • Engineering and procurement
  • Fabrication and installation of new structures (helideck and riser balcony)
  • Installing, integrating and completing topside modules.

Designed to operate 15 years without dry-docking, FPSO Abigail-Joseph boasts a processing capacity of 50,000 barrels of oil per day and 60,000 barrels of liquid per day, Keppel O&M noted. The firm added the vessel has a gas compression capacity of 34 million standard cubic feet per day and a storage capacity of not less than 550,000 barrels of oil.

“This is our third FPSO conversion project with Keppel since 2012, and our close partnership has grown from strength to strength,” remarked Lim Chem Yuan, Yinson Holdings CEO. “Leveraging our FPSO expertise and Keppel's experience in vessel conversions, we are able to achieve this significant industry milestone and bring FPSO Abigail-Joseph to market quickly, maximizing its operational uptime.”

First Exploration and Petroleum Development Co. Ltd. (First E&P) has chartered FPSO Abigail-Joseph on a firm seven-year contract with options to extend, Keppel O&M stated. The FPSO’s destination will be Block OML 83/85 in the Anyala-Madu field off Niger State, Nigeria.
