Vroon Offshore Services (VOS) Ltd has revealed that it has secured a three-year vessel contract extension with BP.
The deal, which is said to be worth around $38 million (GBP 30 million), will see VOS Ltd continue its exclusive provision of four vessels (VOS Discovery, VOS Fairness, VOS Innovator and VOS Vigilant) to support BP’s North Sea and West of Shetland assets until 2023.
The contract extension will guarantee continuity in the delivery of vital standby cover for BP’s offshore workers and secure the jobs of around 100 Vroon seafarers, VOS Ltd noted.
“With BP’s commendable and ambitious targets to become net-zero by 2050, we are pleased to be able to support them with our extremely fuel-efficient vessels, many of which have diesel-electric power generation that significantly reduces their carbon footprint,” Craig Harvie, VOS Ltd managing director, said in a company statement.
“Sustainability and carbon reduction are key considerations for our customers’ future needs and we are proud to be able to meet these,” he added.
VOS Ltd, which is located in Aberdeen, operates a fleet of about 40 emergency response and rescue vessels (ERRV) and is the market leader for ERRV services on the UK continental shelf and in the Irish Sea, according to its website. The company employs 50 people onshore and 1,000 seafarers, its website states.
VOS Ltd announced on May 14, 2018, that it had been awarded a long-term contract with BP. The contract was for two years with the option to extend to five, VOS Ltd noted in a statement at the time.
BP has been operating in the North Sea for more than 50 years and plans to be there for many decades to come, its website reveals. Aberdeen is home to BP’s North Sea headquarters, which covers offshore operations on the UK Continental Shelf.
