(Bloomberg) -- The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has started an investigation into whether a Florida methane release this spring violated Clean Air Act requirements.
The location of the greenhouse gas release was identified as just north of Gainesville, and preliminary findings indicate the cause may have been maintenance at a natural gas compressor station in the town of Brooker, according to an emailed statement from the EPA’s Southeast region office.
The agency started looking into the early-May leak after Bluefield Technologies Inc. detected it using satellite technology and Bloomberg News identified the station, which is operated by Energy Transfer LP, as a likely source.
